One of the prolific Zongo dancehall artists in Ghana Abdul Rashid Khalid, popularly known as Rashid Metal on the leading Hausa morning show in Ghana ” Sarin Safiya” on Baina TV expressed his worries about how his former management treated him in late 2015.
Rashid Metal said he inherited his musical talent from his father who was also into music but didn’t make it through. He said, his grandfather once told his father that, his son Rashid will be the one to break through into the music industry instead of the father.
The Zaafi president said also, he didn’t meet a good team at the beginning of his breakthrough and that affected his brand at that time. After releasing Baafira, his management didn’t help him in terms of altruistic marketing, good promotion, as well as lobbying for correct deals. He thinks the management is not business wise which was the reason he terminated the contract.
He went ahead saying, he currently needs people who will understand his job as an artist. He also needs a record label to depend on as well as a blogger, publicist, videographer and many others to support his brand.
He also said it’s high time people stop tagging them as Zongo artists because he Rashid Metal can stand any other dancehall artist in Ghana for battle, even though he is from Zongo. So they should rather categorize artists from Zongo as Ghanaian artists.
The host asked Rashid Metal about his relationship with artists coming from Zongo. He responded that some of the artists from Zongo are self-centered and that is why some of them don’t go far.
He said it’s always his wish to help as many as he can help some of the artists coming from Zongo but they end up breaking faith with him. He said he has received backlash sometimes back on social media from so many people due to the little issue between himself and his former management.
