Mohammed Ismail Sherif, popularly known as Black Sherif, was adjudged Artiste of the Year at the 24th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs).
He was announced winner for the award which is the topmost gong on the night and greeted with rapturous cheers from the audience.
The awards ceremony, held at the prestigious Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Center ( AICC ) and as usual was very well attended by industry players.
Black Sherif also picked the Most Popular Song of the Year with the global hit single “Kweku the Traveller,” having also won the Best Hip-Hop Song with the same song. And also won the Best Music Video of the Year with his “Konogo Zongo” hit song.
Black Sherif beats contenders such as Sarkodie, Camidoh, King Promise and Piesie Esther to win the ultimate prize.
The “Kwaku the Traveller” hitmaker also won the Best Music Video award, Most Popular Song of the Year and Best Hiplife Song of the Year.
His closest rival, Piesie Esther, grabbed two awards – Best Gospel Song with “Wayɛ me yie” and the Best Gospel Artiste of the Year.

An excited Black Sherif, following his win, walked to the stage singing Sad Boys Don’t Fold – the song he opened his performance with. He thanked everyone that supported him throughout his career stating “I dedicate this award to my mother, father and to Konongo Zongo.”He later sang the lyrics to Sad Boys Don’t Fold as a goodbye – “sending love to my rastas…We’ll be great ‘nti moda a monda’ (if you sleep, sleep well).
Black Sherif assured his fans to expect his new work in June.
